Caramma support bottle: Fostering parental connection with innovative bottle-feeding design

November 6, 2024

The caramma support bottle is the first air-free bottle designed to allow everyone to feed their child with a slow flow in all natural feeding positions - with or without milk in the breasts. It is a revolutionary and patented innovation that fosters heart connection and stimulates oxytocin in parents and babies. The support bottle is designed from circular design principles, local production, and clean materials free of microplastic.

Innovative support bottle designed from circular principles

Breastfeeding can be challenging – half of all mothers struggle, and only 10 % fully breastfeed the recommended six months. There is stigma, sorrow and taboo around the topic of breastfeeding problems and bottle feeding. Conventional baby bottles often exacerbate the issues with rapid milk flow, lack of intimacy and migrating microplastics. As parental roles evolve and new laws across Europe boost leave for fathers, feeding transcends simple gender divisions. Caramma is based on the belief that while every family has their own distinct feeding story, everyone should have an equal opportunity to connect with their newborn.

Co-designers Rie Maktabi and Monika Havnø have developed the bottle over five years, working closely with over a hundred families and experts in ongoing collaboration. Initial interviews formed the vision of a breastfeeding support solution that mimics breasts in form and function. But innovation deriving from, and celebrating, female anatomy lacks behind, and engineers stated that no current technology could replicate the breast’s core functions. Therefore, the technology was invented by bridging insights and knowledge of specialists into tech.

The result is the caramma support bottle, a double-patented technology that succeeds in keeping a collapsible bottle air free. While creating a slow flow controlled by the baby and supporting healthy eating habits with natural pauses aimed at reducing the risk of overfeeding, it allows for full intimacy. It is designed from circular principles, the bottles are foldable for efficient transport, and mono-materials are easily disassembled for a resourceful afterlife.
