Sustainability is the core focus area for Copenhagen Fashion Week. Copenhagen Fashion Week strives towards making substantial changes to the way the event is executed, and works to inspire and encourage the industry to accelerate its sustainability efforts. During SS24, CPHFW and Creative Denmark collaborate on the SS24 international guest program. With a keen focus on key directional leaders of the press and visionary directors of globally renowned retail spaces, the SS24 international guest program encompasses the CPHFW community that has dedicated itself to uplifting and supporting the best of Nordic talent.
The Scandinavian fashion scene is world-renowned for its much-loved labels and forward-thinking design. Their attitude to creating, whether that's from established or emerging designers, is something we can all be inspired by when seeking to act more sustainably. Copenhagen Fashion Week, taking place 7 - 11 August 2023, is a hub for these big ideas and inspiring conversations. CPHFW is already doing its bit to reduce fashion's impact, by setting out sustainability requirements that brands need to meet in order to show on its schedule. Developed in 2019, the guidelines cover 18 minimum standards with six focus areas, including design processes, material choices and working conditions.
All participating brands selected by the show committee have undergone an additional screening from an external sustainability committee to ensure they live up to the 18 Minimum Standards that are part of the Sustainability Requirements framework to be admitted to the official show schedule.
With the minimum standards created in collaboration with an external advisory board and reviewed by a panel of experts, this makes CPHFW the first fashion week in the world to establish actionable demands from the fashion industry to participate, with the requirements receiving incredible support from the press, buyers, industry leaders and the wider industry.
Longer-lasting design is one dimension of a highly increased focus on more sustainable fashion. The global fashion industry has a significant carbon footprint and the production often challenges sustainability in terms of water-use, pollution,child-labour and waste of resources. The Danish fashion industry has decided to do something about that. From 2023 The Copenhagen Fashion Week has introduced 18 minimum requirements and a host of additional actions for increased sustainability. As a consequence, the Copenhagen Fashion Week has become a must-go event for those who want to move fashion in a more sustainable direction.
